The Klipnocky Klangers is the youth (grades 7-12) handbell choir of First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, NY, and members of the Handbell Musicians of America (HMA). Under the direction of John Jurgensen (one of the original class of Klangers of 1975-77), they perform at church services, concerts, and Area festivals. We rehearse every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 pm. This group draws membership not only from our congregation, but from the community at large, whose members come from varying faith backgrounds. There can be additional opportunities to ring in small ensembles, solo ring, and learn conducting. This year we will be adding some pop tunes to our repertoire. Also, don't be surprised if you should suddenly see us appear in public out of nowhere.
The Klipnocky Klangers have received special recognition by performing at the National Festival in Hartford CT, Wayne NJ, Niagara Falls NY, Portland, ME, Greensboro, NC, Riverside Church in NYC. In 2008 they participated in the premier of the "Distinctly Teen" portion of the International Handbell Festival in Orlando, FL., and Mountaintop Christmas in Windham, NY in December, 2016. They attend our Area 2 Handbell Festivals held every two years at various locations. Our last festival was held at Scranton University, June 2015. The next festival will be held at SUNY Onondaga Community College, Syracuse in 2017.
2017 Area 2 Conference
This year's handbell festival will be held at SUNY Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. The dates are Friday, June 30-Sunday, July 2, 2017. There are two changes from the original plan. First, the location was formerly University of Scranton. Second, the Area 2 Executive Board voted on having a two day conference instead of a three day conference. This will lessen the cost and hopefully be an incentive for more handbell teams to be able to afford attendance.
Our first meeting for the 2016-2017 season will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm. This is a ringer/parent meeting. Parents of ringers new to the Klangers are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting, as it will outline the entire year and expectations of all involved. The updated forms below will be distributed, or you may print them out ahead of time to review.
