The Gathering is a worship and spirituality experience held at First UMC Oneonta every Sunday night during the academic year--second Sunday in September through the last Sunday in May. Click here to see a short video about the Gathering.
The evening begins at 5:00 pm in the sanctuary. Awesome music fills our service, led by our band-Crossfire. The service is very interactive. Come just as you are. Experience scripture, join in prayer, participate in the message. Move to the Spirit! Our youngest participants are invited, after children's time, to move to the education wing for Foundations Class. Our teachers will guide our younger participants downstairs, and then bring them to the hall just in time for dinner!
Worship transitions directly into our evening meal in the Fellowship Hall, just a few steps from the sanctuary. We gather around the table, working together to set the placesettings, fill the water pitchers, and serve ourselves buffet style. Once we've eaten we express our gratitude to our chefs of the evening and work together to clear and clean the tables.
Learning and Fun!
As we finish cleaning up from our meal, we move into a time of learning and exploration. Our 5th and 6th graders join in a class called "Didici", which is Latin for "I Learn." The 7th and 8th graders are in a two year journey toward confirmation in their class, entitled "Credo," I Believe. The 9th-12th graders move into the youth cafe for "Ex Fide-By Faith," for a time of fellowship and converstaion.
We are always looking for adult offerings. If you have an idea, please let us know.
