What To Expect

If you are coming to church for the first time we want you to know that you are welcome here. We have no dress code and we strive to make our worship services accessible to all people.

We have 2 primary worship spaces on Sunday morning: the Sanctuary and the Embury Room. The 8:15 service is held in the Embury Room, where we have couches and chairs set up and a piano for music. The 10:30 service is held in the Sanctuary, with additional seating in the Embury Room, It includes a mix of piano and organ music, as well as a musical offering from our choir.

Several times throughout the year our bell choirs offer their gifts during the 10:30 worship service. We also occasionally have additional special music, primarily during the 10:30 worship service.

Some Common Questions

We know showing up to church for the first time can feel a little strange. Here are some of the most common questions that we get asked.

There's no dress code here. Come just as you are.

FUMC does not have a parking lot.

There is street parking available on Church Street.

You may also park along the outer edge of the Dollar General parking lot or in the lot on Academy Street behind the old Baptist Church.

There are also several city parking lots within walking distance of the church.

Your children are always welcome in worship with you.

Nursery care is available during both services for our youngest ones.

At the 10:30 service, we also offer Parallel Worship—a special time for children who may be too old for the nursery but not quite ready to sit through the full service. With engaging activities led by our student interns and volunteers, children can learn, participate, and experience worship in a way that’s meaningful for them.

We also offer children's Sunday School at 9:20 on Sunday morning. During Sunday School parents are invited to connect in our Parent's Café.

We have a lot of different ministry opportunities for people of all ages and religious backgrounds. Check out the ministries tab to learn more about the ways you can connect at FUMC.

We strive to be an inclusive community.

For over 35 years FUMC has been part of the the Reconciling Ministries Network, an organization within the United Methodist Church that seeks full inclusion the LGBTQ+ persons in the life and leadership of the church.

We have also engaged in anti-racism work and strive to create a community where people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are welcome.
