FUMC seeks an accompanist who can work collaboratively with others to create dynamic worship experiences. The Church Accompanist works with the Choir Director, Pastor, and worship team to provide music for two Sunday morning worship services, special services, and rehearsals. The Church Accompanist will utilize the organ and piano in coordination with congregational singing, soloists, special musical offerings, the chancel choir, and two handbell choirs. FUMC is a reconciling congregation with a commitment to justice and cross-cultural ministries. The Church Accompanist plays an important role in our church’s mission by collaborating with other church leaders to offer music from a variety of cultures and genres. This position has the potential for growth. About First United Methodist’s Instruments The church organ is a 3 manual Moeller, built in 1926 and rebuilt in 1970. The console was rebuilt in 2020 by the Peterson Electro-Musical Products and contains their ICS-4000 organ control system. It has approximately 38 ranks spread across 6 divisions and an Allen Ensemble MIDI unit. The church piano is a 6’ Steinway Model B grand piano. The church music program also includes 5 octaves of Schulmerich Handbells, plus G2, as well as 5 octaves of Malmark handchimes as well as the lower 6th and 7th octaves. Qualifications Proficiency on organ and piano, including an ability to provide accompaniment to singers and other musicians. Ability to work as part of a team Ability to play other instruments (ie. guitar) is preferred. Familiarity with liturgical music is preferred. Chior Director Position—Choir Director at First United Methodist Church of Oneonta Position Summary: Title: Choir Director Hours per week: 15-20 with the potential for growth Starting date: January 1st, 2024 Compensation: $25-30/hour. To Apply Submit an application, resume, and cover letter to pastor@firstumc-oneonta.org The Role of Choir Director First United Methodist Church of Oneonta has a strong history of music ministry. FUMC seeks a choir director who can work collaboratively with others to create dynamic worship experiences. The choir director position is a 9½ month position from September through mid-June each year, with the possibility of occasional commitments during summer months. The Choir Director provides direction for the sanctuary choir during the 10:30am Sunday worship service with occasional performances from the two handbell choirs. The Choir Director is also responsible for coordinating necessary rehearsals with choirs, special music, and accompanists. As FUMC works to expand its musical offerings, the choir director will play a vital role in involving all members of the church, including children and young adults, in the church’s music ministry. In keeping with FUMC’s commitment to reconciling, justice, and cross-cultural ministries, candidates for the Choir Director position should have skills in selecting music that enhances the church’s missional priorities.
