This year we are going to be getting back to the roots of our Wesleyan heritage. Part of that journey will be embracing the vile nature of our faith. This 3-week series will use Ashley Boggan’s book Wesleyan Vile-tality as a jumping off point to explore what it means to be vile, what happens when we substitute a vile faith for a respectable faith, and how we can (re)claim our vile nature as a church.
Each week we will hear two readings from scripture that remind us that the core tenets of our faith were, at one time, quite vile to the world. We will also be exploring some of our history as Methodists and how we have embraced (and often failed to embrace) being a vile church.
